The Emergence of Google Chrome OS (Operating System)!!

Since the beginning of 2010 the rush of technology have already emerged more aggressively in comparison to 2009.  Its an unstoppable force called innovation.  To highlight a few, we have seen the emergence of iPad, iphone 4, Android, HTML 5, and CSS 3.  As the most recent event that caught my attention is Google’s newest project called Google Chrome OS (Operating System) which is the extension of Google Chrome browser that was launched in the late of 2009.  Chrome OS goal is to be an open source internet platform that attempts to provide “Simplicity, Speed, and Security” to the everyday user of the web that regularly check emails, web browsing, search info, etc.   It will be the first thing you see when the computer is switched on without having to locate the web browser.  Furthermore, unlike the OSX or Windows OX, where the majority of data are stored in the hard-drive, the Chrome OS will implement a “Cloud Computing” to store data.   At this stage Netbooks are the target markets, available to consumers in the second half of 2010.

While this may sound very exciting and progressive there are certainly a question of security and to what extent do we really want to expose all of our information.  Decide for yourself!  Below are You Tube videos that shows the different aspect of Google Chrome OS or to find out more info click on Google Blog or Chrome OS sites.  Enjoy and any comments are welcome!

Peace

kinda of cool kind of not. I downloaded an earlier version and played with it a bit. I haven’t been following new releases but the ability to save locally is a must. (i think i heard something about them adding this) also i prefer android, i would like to see either a mesh of android and chrome os or something closer to android. This would still allow devs to create web apps but could also pull from the already packed android market. I like the idea of widgets (which i guess could be javascript/flash/html5 driven) but only web apps in the browser seems a bit restrictive to me. maybe something like yahoo / google widgets would work? my prediction… chrome OS alone = bla fizzle … but chrome OS + Android (with local file/app storage) = success and if it is a success it will go way beyond netbooks to laptops and desktops.

security… if you put it on facebook or other public facing sites expect it to be found or seen as they dont protect it. there is a huge difference between unlisted and private. unlisted = domain/key but private means you need to be logged in and authenticated and i think google is pretty good with this. the issue here with it all being open is even though chrome os may protect your data it can run a facebook app that is not keeping your data private. People just need to be aware.

    my quick 2 cents.

Hey Chad that’s very insightful! It’s good to know the difference between private vs unlisted, which from the video they did stated that it’s implementing user privileged access. I just hope that that it will stay that way, unlike Facebook who get the big bucks because they sell all of the users contact to Advertisers. I don’t know much about Android, but have read many good reviews about it. Does your mobile phone use Android OS? I got my iphone4, happy with everything else, except AT&T! Anyway, thanks for sharing Chad. I’ll be posting more stuff like this in the future and your input is invaluable :)
